✨ Sexual Violence Research Initiative Forum 2024 - Cape Town, South Africa.

In October 2024, Mora Fernández, our founder and CEO, attended the SVRI Forum 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa thanks to the generous sponsorship of the United Nations Spotlight Initiative. It was a great opportunity to share experiences with survivors, activists, academics, practitioners, agencies and policy makers around the world. The 5 day-Forum focused on a collective response and the need of a holistic and intersectional approach to prevent, heal and end sexual and gender-based violence.
One of our favorite moments was the Spotlight Initiative panel: “A Journey in Comprehensive EVAWG Programming: Drawing Lessons for the Sector”. It was super interesting to listen to all the panelists and projects that work directly with victims. Some of this case study can be found in the Compendium of Innovative and Good Practices Lessons

It was a reminder that we - activists and practitioners - have a very strong record of creating knowledge about under-researched forms of sexual and gender-based violence, of raising up the voices of victims/survivors, of enabling our experiences to lead the generation of new knowledge, and of developing methodological approaches for doing so. These projects are not only a healing space but also an effective advocacy tool.
Thanks to the Sexual Violence Research Initiative for an event full of joy, hope, knowledge, solidarity, teamwork and fun. And thanks to the Spotlight Initiative for their generosity.
See you in 2026!
